Over the years, we’ve published articles about how to start a blog, how to overcome the challenges that comes with blogging e.t.c. Today we are going to talk about how to create, manage, and monetize your blog.
Lets get right to it:
How To Create a Blog.
Blogging is about sharing your knowledge with the world. Choosing a topic that you are passionate about makes the process of starting a successful blog so much easier. Writing about more than one topic is totally fine too. As long as you are writing about things that you are genuinely interested in, your passion will shine through and keep your readers interested. Below are steps to creating your own blog:
- Pick a Blog Name(domain name): Your blog name has to be descriptive. Hobbies or other interests you are passionate about are a great place to start, for me it was technology. Once you’ve figured out a very descriptive domain name the next step is to get your blog online.
- Get Your Blog Online: To get your blog up and running you need two things: blog hosting and blogging software. The good news is that these typically come packaged together.A blog host is a company that stores all of the files for your blog and delivers them to the user when they type in your blog name. You must have a blog host in order to have a blog.
You also need to have the software to build your blog. There are quite a number of blogging softwares but i prefer WordPress blogging software, because it is the most popular, customizable, and easiest to use.
Now about hosting your blog, i recommend you use Namecheap, reason is that they are very reliable and secure.
How To Manage My Blog.
Now that your blog is online, the next thing to do is to manage it. First you’ll have to customize your blog.
If you’ve installed wordpress already all you need to do is login to your blog. Go to http://www.yourblogname.com/wp-admin to bring up the login screen (replace “yourblogname.com” with your domain name). If you are unsure of your login name or password, check the email that was sent to you from your host company that has this information. This interface will pop-up;
Entered your login details and you’re in. Everyone has a different idea of how they want their blog to look. One of the great things about a WordPress blog is that you can change your entire layout and design with just a few clicks.
In WordPress, blog layouts are known as “Themes”. What is a blog theme? Themes control the entire design of your blog. To change your theme you are going to click on the “Appearance” tab on the left menu.
Pick a theme and you’re good to go.
Once your theme is in place, the next thing is to start publishing articles. On the left hand side of your wordpress admin panel, click on “Post” and then click “Add New”.
From this interface above you can do virtually anything to ensure that your articles are well written and organized. You will also need to install and activate some important plugins like Premium yoast SEO plugin, jetpack plugin e.t.c.
How To Monetize My Blog.
There are various ways to make money from your blog, am going to show you Four(4) of those ways.
1. Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is a type of performance-based marketing. As the blogger, you include links to a product or service offered through another business’s affiliate program. If one of your visitors clicks on that link and purchases the good or service, you’ll receive a cut of the cost.
You can become an affiliate marketer by joining a popular program such as:
2. Google Adsense
Google AdSense is one of the most popular ad networks around. You make money by displaying ads on your site. There are two ways to start earning cash from Google AdSense:
- Based on impressions: This depends on page views. For instance, for every 1,000 page views you get, you earn a set dollar amount.
- Based on clicks: Regardless of page views, if a visitor clicks on the ad from your site, you’ll earn a certain cut of the ad revenue. This can range anywhere from $0.01 to a couple of dollars depending on the ad.
3. Banner Ads
If you’re generating a good amount of traffic on your blog, you might be approached by a business looking to sponsor your site. There are usually two requests you get in these cases:
- Paid reviews or sponsorship posts
- Banner ads
Paid reviews are when the business sends you their product and pays you to write a review about it, but you are not obligated to write a positive review. Alternatively, some businesses will sponsor a specific post in exchange for a link back to their site. It is an ethical practice to disclose the sponsorship to your readers.
Banner ads are just what they sound like. They’re ads you place in “banner” style, usually in your sidebar. The business sponsoring the ad will often pay you monthly to keep the ad up on your site.
Writing eBooks is a very popular way to start selling a unique product in your industry, and it’s ideal for pretty much any niche. With so many self-publishing opportunities available, too, it’s easy to get your book published and ready to sell with major retailers like Amazon or directly on your site.
I hope this has helped, be sure to share this article with friends.
